Badword Class - what\'s the big deal?

Badword Class - what\'s the big deal? 9 Years, 5 Months ago
I\'ve screwed around with the error:
Fatal error: Class \'Badword\' not found in /hermes/web04/b1822/pow.xxxxm/htdocs/websites/xxxx/joomla/components/com_fireboard/template/default/view.php on line 1020

for an hour now - what\'s the big deal and why is this so hard?

I installed the plugin OSTWigits - Badwords at http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,2692/Itemid,35/

I activated it in the plugin manager and see the supplied bad words and I still get the error message; I cleared cashes and even prayed a little but no luck.

I can\'t for the life of me see why I should spend more than 30 seconds activating bad words - I hope the rest of FireBoard isn\'t so irritating.

My suggestion to the developers here is to put a simple link in your configuration section where you allow users to activate badwords. Why all the cloak and daggers?

Can anyone help me since I\'m stuck here - thanks for any feedback.

P.S.
I get 182 replies to the search for Badword - I\'m not the only one that thinks this is something that should be a lot simpler.

Not just any extension can be used.
Try http://www.schoolastech.com/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=31.

Thanks for the reply, but this module doesn\'t do anything either - just blows up Joomla.

I went here: http://www.schoolastech.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=29&func=fileinfo&id=9

Downloaded and unzipped and installed the module - does nothing.

The documentation says something about another module, Badwords2 - where is this module and why are 2 modules needed to do bad word filtering?

When bad words is activated in Fireboard I get the error message:
Fatal error: Class \'Badword\' not found in /hermes/web04/b1822/pow.xxxxxx/htdocs/websites/xxxxxxxx/joomla/components/com_fireboard/template/default/view.php on line 1020

Does everyone have this problem with Fireboard?

Bad words should be an integral part of Joomla just like other similar applications like Xoops.

Can someone else point me in another direction?

So 2 badword modules tried and both blow up Fireboard - not much of a track record to speak of.

Thanks in advance....

P.S.
It truly amazes me that this bad word problem has impacted countless folks trying to run Fireboard and nothing seems to have been done - all this work on a nice chat room and have another party\'s module screw up Fireboard is just crazy in my book. But, I need a good chat room and a good bad word filter - so far Joomla 1.5 and Fireboard are falling short of the mark.

Could it be, that the pathes are pointing to \"badwords\" instead \"badwords2\"?

The pathes in Fireboard are all pointing to the old component \"badwords\" by default. But, ... you are using the \"new\" component \"badwords2\".

I understand what you are saying so I guess this is a bug in Fireboard? I sure don\'t know how to fix something like this.

Sounds like a programmer at Fireboard needs to take 5 minutes and just add a bad word filter instead of relying on another party to do their job. As a former programmer I know I could do it in 5 minutes, maybe 4. I can understand deferring to Joomla if it were part of the core but since it isn\'t Fireboard needs to step up and do the job.

I guess I\'ll try to report this as a bug in Firboard unless someone else knows how to install a bad word filter that works with Fireboard.

Thanks for the input...

You have to edit the pathes (from path to badwords, to path to badwords2) in the files where the errors occur. Change the classname in this errornous files to badwords2, too. It\'s a trial and error, shure. But I\'ve done this on 2 sides now and it works.

Thanks for all the help - I\'m bypassing Joomla and going with TikiWiki for now and later migrating to Bitweaver.

I\'m going to assume Joomla is full of this kind of stuff and not worth the effort to implement it.

But I do appreciate all the help.

It would be really helpful if you could provide more detailed instructions on this.

I\'ve tried this, but I\'m still getting the error.
