1.0.5 Progress Update 9 Years, 1 Month ago
Hi there,

I know many of you are awaiting the release of 1.0.5. As it will be the last 1.0.x release before we move on to 2.0 we wanted to make this the best, most stable, fastest FireBoard ever!

I think we are making very good progress. Still need to finish the documentation and we have handful of bugs that need to get fixed. Overall the version has come to a level of stability that will make many of you very happy.

In addition to tons of fixes, we also added lots of new features like embedded videos and ebay widget, new bbcode tags (hide & spoiler) and amongst many new things like SEO optimization we also automated the heck out of installs and upgrades.

No matter what version of FireBoard you are on, the upgrade will be super simple, without the need to run a single manual script or hack. From here on installs and upgrades will be fully automatic.

Due to the degree of changes some 3rd party tools wont work out of the box. We are working with several authors to get their addons adjusted, which will make them also more robust and better performing.

We are planning to release 1.0.5RC1 in a few days - as soon as we have fixed the remaining bugs.

To speed up final testing I have rolled out the latest code to: [url]www.starVmax.com/Form[/url]

The upgrade from a custom 1.0.4 took less than 45 secs and did not require any manual intervention. The site was back online in less than 1 min.

To give you a perspective about the amount of optimization that went into 1.0.5 I wanted to share a little CPU chart of that server running www.starVmax.com
The site gets about 20000 visitors per month and people post 50-100 new posts a day while doing about 250000 pageviews per month. Not a huge site by any means but decent traffic to measure the platform.

Here is the CPU chart that shows the dramtic drop in CPU when switching from 1.0.4 (default) to 1.0.5 (default_ex): [img size=471]http://fireboard.bestofjoomla.com/images/fbfiles/images/1.png[/img]

I did some early tests around 7/22 for a few days, switched back and did the automatic upgrade on 8/1

The site is running J1.0.15, sh404SEF, multithumb and various other modules and plugins in addition to FireBoard

Unless you are a developer, I recommend you do not run the current nightly builds on production. RC1 will be here soon enough for you to roll out.

More to come over the next days.

It\'s starting to look really good. The majority of the few issues reports are found to be caused by other things. Now, we will still look into them to see if there is anything we can do on our side to make the problems go away.

Just in case you have not realized. As part of the final phase of testing we are now running the latest build of 1.0.5 here on the site. There are still a few issues (sorry about that!) but we are getting closer and closer!

[size=4][color=#FF0000]That includes fixes for SEARCH![/color][/size] :woohoo:

One can actually find stuff by using the search function! B)

Hope you\'re having in mind the preview bug, which also exists on this site... I\'m talking about when you post a new comment and click on the \"Preview\" button and the following error occurs:

[code]Warning: reset() [function.reset]: Passed variable is not an array or object in /home/bestofjo/public_html/components/com_fireboard/template/default/smile.class.php on line 42

Warning: Variable passed to each() is not an array or object in /home/bestofjo/public_html/components/com_fireboard/template/default/smile.class.php on line 44[/code]
