Forum Search Problem (solved - sort of) 10 Years ago
Hello, I seem to have no search results returned using the forum search, I do get search results if I use the Joomla! search with the fireboard searchbot active. But right now all I can do is remove the forum search box as it will not return anything, not what I really want to do as I have a lot of Joomla! content and would like to keep that separate from the forum results.

Any ideas on what can be causing this?

Thank you.

Oh, sorry if this is the wrong place to post this...

SOLVED sort of:

O.K., I was looking to see if a module could be causing this and when I turned off \"mod_related_items\" the search now works, so something with that module is affecting the search results, now I need to find out what...
O.K. again, now I turned it back on and it still works, this is weird, but both the related items and forum search are fine...

Well, I have the same problem.

The difference is, I never had mod_related_items published since I had installed fireboard. So I don\'t think its related to that module!

Just did a fresh install of Fireboard 1.0.3 with Joomla 1.0.13. My first time trying it out, actually. I like it and want to use it, so I\'m hoping my info here will help make it even better...

Looks to me like the forum search is returning results only for top-level forums, and not for child forums. For example, in the support forums you\'re now using, take a look at this thread:

c\'est mon post a moi
http://www.bestofjoomla.com/component/option,com_fireboard/Itemid,38/func,view/id,922/catid,30/

Notice that the first post in this thread contains the word \"bonjour\". If you search for this word, you won\'t get any results back, (even though I just repeated the word in this paragraph), because this thread is a child forum. Also, the word will not be found in the \"c\'est mon post a moi\" thread, since it is also a child forum.

Try posting something in a top-level forum with \"bonjour\" in it. It should show up in search results. Perhaps I\'ll do that myself, and edit this post with that link... Be right back.

- Brett

[edit] Yes, the results show up in my other top-level forum post, but not here. The bug is repeatable on these forums.

I am so confused... is there a known cause and cure to searching in fireboard to include data from the child boards? I find 0 results when searching alot of the joomla and fireboard forums for words specifically in child boards as well. This bug renders the search function fairly useless if you use several child boards in your forum

I keep searching and cannot find an answer. I would also like to search from joomla to include my fireboard forum.

Using joomla 1.5

Thanks in advance for any help. It would be devesating to have to turn back to 1.0 if this is specific to joomla 1.5.

Well, I\'ve given up using the search field from fireboard, instead I\'ve installed a Fireboard Search Bot and now I can search the forum using the search field from my website template. Works pretty good.

Thanks Sushi. I pulled up the Fireboard Search Bot on Joomla Extensions and it states compatibility only with Joomla 1.0. Are using this with Joomla 1.5? Thanks again for your response.

I\'m using 1.0.13, and it works fine, the only thing you might consider as a problem is that as you\'re searching on your search form of your site, it will show the results of the search on the site as well as fireboard results, but for me this isn\'t a problem, for someone who couldn\'t search the forum it\'s better than nothing. I haven\'t read this compatibility problem, but you could try to install it with legacy mode turned on. I don\'t know if it\'ll work but at least is worth to give it a shot.
