Installation Error-> \"JFTP::write: Bad response..\" 6 Years ago
I have been considering using FireBoard as my forum for of choice but I have been banging my head against the wall with the install. I am receiving the following error during install:
* JFTP::write: Bad response
* Unable to write entry
I have tried both the latest 1.0.4 stable and the latest beta10 of 1.0.5.

Virgin Joomla 1.5.6 site with default template.
FTP settings are correct.
All directories in Admin-> System Info-> Directory Permissions are writeable.
PHP 5.2.6
MySQL 5.0.51a

Other components have installed just fine.
I have tried disabling FTP and installing, no luck.
I have deleted the entire site and database and installed from scratch 3 times, same error.
Again, other components are installing easily.
The files ARE being FTP\'d to the TMP directory and extracted.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you.

Your FTP settings are wrong. Do other modules/components install?
If not go to your Admin panel
From the top adminbar choose: Site --> Global Configuration
Then choose: Server
Go down and youll see \"FTP Settings\", make sure you enabled it.
Then write down your ftp settings (then same user, password and ftp you use to upload files)
Click \"Save\" in the right top, and try again.

I have checked and rechecked my FTP settings. I have tried loading other components and they all install without a hitch. Even this installation seems to start because the files are uploaded and extracted to the TMP directory, but then I get the error.

Is there a method to doing a manual install?

I am going to delete the entire site and database and try to reload from scratch again (4th time). I\'ve set up dozens of Joomla sites over the years and never had problems like this before. I may be missing something little right in front of me but I just can\'t figure this one out.

Lets try it diffrently and get to the core of the problem.

Try this:

Upload the module .zip-file to your ftp, lets say /tmp

Now go to the installation-manager.
Instead of the first option \"Upload Package File\" try the second one \"Install from directory\"
Give the path to the .zip file, it should already show the whole path untill /tmp so only add the .zip-file name (example; Firebord-1.0.4.zip)

Does it work now?

Ok, I\'ve already deleted the site and I\'m installing a fresh copy of Joomla. As soon as I have it configured I will try the \"Install from directory\" option and let you know. Here\'s hoping!!!

Tried it yet?

Tried it...still no luck. At this point I\'m going to have to find another solution. Other components are loading so I\'ll use one of them for now. I\'ve spent almost 12 hours loading this component. I will try to revisit it in the future. Thanks for your suggestions.

I\'d like to report this issue is SOLVED! I can\'t figure how to mark it solved and my brain is not working so if a moderator could change it or instruct me on how to mark it solved that would be GREAT!

Juiceh,

Thank you! I had to walk away from this issue for a while. I was beginning to feel like Michael Douglas in Falling Down.

Ok, the issue turned out to be a misconfiguration error in Plesk (my server control panel). Plesk was turning on php safemode and overriding the php.ini file. With the php safemode on, the install script was unable to move files from the extracted tmp install directories to the final destination directories. It took close to 24 hours for me to figure this one out so I hope someone else can benefit from it. Looking forward to making FireBoard a staple of my sites.
