TOPIC: File Permissions

File Permissions 10 Years ago
I have just installed the latest version of Fireboard and it looks very good but the colours don\'t match my website so I have been trying o edit the css file. However something won\'t let me. I was having problems changing the permissions but that is now OK and the css file is now writeable but I still can\'t edit the CSS file. I think it might be to do with the directory owner and group. Is there any way I can change this?

Is there a specific error message that appears?

Re:File Permissions 10 Years ago
In Joomla the reply is:

FATAL ERROR: File could not be opened.

Re:File Permissions 10 Years ago
I have tried to edit the file externally and upload the amended file but it won\'t let me copy anything to that directory. I get the following message:

scp:
/home/jcr/public_html/components/com_fireboard/template/default/forum.css: set times: Operation not permitted

Re:File Permissions 10 Years ago
Strangely it seems to have worked and the externally edited file has now uploaded even though it said that the operation was not permitted. So I think I am OK if I can edit the file externally even if I can\'t through Joomla.

You may want to get help from your web host regarding permission issues if you feel you have set them properly. Remember to make sure both the directory and the file are given the correct permissions.
