I don\'t know too much about Yahoo Groups but would figure Yahoo would not be too happy about such a thing, since even though their groups suck and are highly laden with spam, those groups are still theirs, Yahoo Groups.

I am in the process of downloading our yahoo groups and converting them to fireboard.... there are a few perl scripts out there to download all of your yahoo group messages (you must be yahoo group admin to do this)..... then its just a matter of creating the correct perl script to get everything into fireboard... I am just finishing the debug on my script and so far so good.... will have over 25000 yahoo group messages added (along with the proper replies formated as replies) into fireboard by this evening....

a custom script will have to be created specific to your yahoo group messages in order to get the proper replies attached to the corresponding original message.

I used PG Offline to grab my messages from Yahoo Groups. It stores them in a MS Access Database which I imported into the conversion utility that I\'ve been creating. I haven\'t decided on the best way to display messages from Yahoo Groups in Fireboard. I\'ll probably display them in a forum (category) created just for Yahoo Groups and let the subjects determine threads (with my messages, this requires quite a bit of manual intervention). I\'m not concerned with anything other than the messages.

I\'m not sure that this is helpful. I read through the terms of service agreement and various other things at their site, and I can\'t find anything that even suggests this. I\'m not sure anyone is talking about taking anything other than their content from their Groups. In the majority of cases, that just means putting email messages on the web (through Fireboard). Is this post a bit alarmist, or am I missing something?

So you\'re just using the subjects to determine threads?

I found a perlscript to access and download all of our messages and then I created a perl script that parsed each message and created a fireboard entry. I used the subject and parsed each message to find the replies and created the proper parent child relationships in fireboard so that anyone searching would get a post and all the replies in standard fireboard format. It did require quite a bit of code wrangling to finally tweek the perl to handle my yahoo group... but I completed the move of about 35,000 messages in about a day.

Okay, sounds like you did what I\'m doing: you\'re throwing all the messages into a single FB category and using the subjects to thread them. A couple of questions for you, if you have time.

[ol][li]Did you touch any of your other things like photo albums?[/li]
[li]What about HTML? When I got them from PG offline, they were formatted in HTML, and I have to strip all the tags from the messages.[/li]
[li]Any chance of getting a link to or a copy of this script in perl?[/li][/ol]

PS. What you see above is an ordered list using the bb tags for Fireboard. It doesn\'t even format it like it does in the (HTML) preview. Umphf!

PPS. The formatting issue with the lists appears to be a template problem. Numinu and Dorona Brown neglect them. Only default seems to show them properly.
