JoomFish + Fireboard in frontend language chooser

JoomFish + Fireboard in frontend language chooser 9 Years, 4 Months ago
Hello,

I was wondering if fireboard is compatible for JoomFish when changing the language in the frontend? My multi-lingual web site allows the users the change the contents from English to Chinese in the frontend with the use of a drop-down box. Is this possible with fireboard?

Currently I have my Joomla integrated with SMF forums and JoomFish words perfectly well changing from one language to another in the frontend. However, it is difficult to maintain both integrations SMF and Joomla..

Could somebody please help me. I have downloaded the Chinese language files but I\'m not sure how to make it work with JoomFish.

Thanks in advance!

Hi peetee,

Yes I managed to make it work. First I download the language packs and then extract the contents and rename some filenames to be the same as the language we\'ve installed in our backend Joomla.

So for example, if I go to my Site -> Language Manager -> clicked simplified chinese utf-8 and it\'ll show that I am editing the file public_html/joomla/simp_chinese_utf8.php, therefore I rename two things extracted from the fireboard language pack I downloaded:
administrator/components/com_fireboard/language/simp_chinese_utf8.php
components/com_fireboard/template/default/images/simp_chinese_utf8

Then upload these to your joomla directory.

hi guys, I installed Joomla 1.5 with Joom!Fish 2.0 beta and Fireboard 1.0.4, I wanted to see the board controls in another language, so I tried to test with Japanese, and unsurprisingly it didn\'t work, but I was able to hack it. In the /components/com_fireboard/class.fireboard.php file I commented out line 116, and immediately after I added this:
// define(\'JB_LANG\', $mainframe->getCfg(\'lang\'));

if (isset($_GET[\'lang\'])) {

//select language from GET variable
switch ($_GET[\'lang\']) {

//\'ja\' to japanese
case \'ja\' :
define(\'JB_LANG\', \'japanese\');
break;

//\'ko\' to korean
case \'ko\' :
define(\'JB_LANG\', \'korean\');
break;

//with no recognized html get lang variable,
//get the language the original way
default:

define(\'JB_LANG\', $mainframe->getCfg(\'lang\'));
break;
}
} else {
//with no html get lang variable found,
//get the language the original way
define(\'JB_LANG\', $mainframe->getCfg(\'lang\'));
}
To summarize:

- The existing function call,
$mainframe->getCfg(\'lang\')
, was returning the wrong value, \"english\".
- Joom!Fish was setting an HTML \"get\" variable as a two-letter language code.
- I changed Fireboard to \"get\" the selected language from the html-get variable, which was set properly.
- now Fireboard will look for the proper language files in the administrator and image folders

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks danicheman, I think you just saved my azz, and I registered just to tell you so. I installed FireBoard 1.0.5 on Joomla 1.5 running JoomFish 2.0 and was getting no love. Your hack fixed it right up. Thanks.

Great work, works excellent on my site as well.

I hope Fireboard developers keep this functionality in mind for 1.0.5 final release or at least 2.0 release. We need Joom!Fish compatibility!

vladan, do your user profiles still work after making this hack? Not sure if the two issues are related, but I\'m now getting a strange new bug where users cannot view other users\' profiles: relevant topic. Just wondering if this hack had something to do with it...

Hi, user profiles are not working either before or after this hack, so it doesn\'t affect. Fireboard bug when using JoomFish it seems.

Could someone please explain a bit the code that danicheman sent.
I\'m not an advanced user of php, so can someone tell what exactly to put in line 116 of the class.fireboard.php file ?

I have english language as default, but romanian language is also installed.

Thank you !

P.S. I made the following changes, but it didn\'t work for me :(
define(\'JB_LANG\', $mainframe->getCfg(\'lang\'));
if ( isset( $_GET[\'lang\'] ) ) {
switch ( $_GET[\'lang\'] ) {
case \'ro\':
define(\'JB_LANG\', \'romanian\');
break;
case \'en\':
define(\'JB_LANG\', \'english\');
break;
default:
define(\'JB_LANG\', $mainframe->getCfg(\'lang\'));
break;
}
}
else {
define(\'JB_LANG\', $mainframe->getCfg(\'lang\'));
}
are further modifications necessary ?

Later Edit: PROBLEM SOLVED ! but is there any way the forum will show a different content when switching to another language ?
