It appears the ClexusPM for fireboard (and joomla) has been pulled...I went to their site and saw this news announcement:
Commercial Softwares for Joomla, Thursday, 14 June 2007
Dear visitors, Following the discussion in joomla community regarding the commercial software, we are sorry to announce the withdrawal of our products from sales. Thank you for your understanding. Support for current clients will continue however.
If this is true, thats a shame because I was hoping to have used that and also take advantage of an enhanced user profile feature (as the forum here has it).

Anyone know why they did that announcement?

Ah....you know right after I posted this I did go to the joomla site to do another look and sure enough on homepage. Makes sense though what they are saying. I did mention to a friend of mine the other day that it seems like more and more commercial \"paid\" extensions are showing up....and at the expense of Open Source.

Anyway, it would be nice to have a full profile feature in fireboard.

Thanks for the \"discussion\" link, I never seen that one at joomla. ;) Time to read it now.

Re:ClexusPM 10 Years, 3 Months ago
so the reason that clexus has been removed from purchase is in fact that they were charging for the component?

Thanks

Hi Danny...I think (and after reading a very large thread in the joomla forum) is that this is quite possibly the reason. I noticed before that there seems to be more and more \"commercial license\" based extensions being put out. When you think about it, the 3rd party makers of these extensions are in a way, making money off the hard work and support of Open Source people who do it for free basically. I agree, open source should be kept totally open source and I think there will be more extensions being pulled. It\'s like the people of Fireboard...awesome extension and its open source based. They put a lot of work into this one and people can only hope the commercial products don\'t cause problems. I agree with everyone in the open source community, if you want to create and support open source, you should abide by the GPL terms and not try to profit off other\'s hard work.

Complicated topic but I\'ve been guilty of purchasing commercial extensions, only because some of them that I\'ve used were actually better than the other ones. My next site I am designing for a client will only use non-commercial licensed extensions though and I think I will try to keep it that way.

Funny! The people that created Clexus are the very same people that have given you Fireboard. I\'m really torn on this issue. Most of the people that charge for their extensions or components also give some of their stuff away. I do understand that it\'s hard to give hours and hours of your time to develop something, write code, then just give it away. It\'s the way they make money. On the other hand, Open Source GNU GPL is Open Source GNU GPL and was meant to be free by the original authors of the main web app that these extensions and components are created for.

Like I said, it\'s a hard one for me so I\'ll just have to leave it at that. ;)

Re:ClexusPM 10 Years, 3 Months ago
:( so is there no way i can have Clexus, As for me it is the best looking and has the best features of any PM system for Joomla!. I do like Primezilla, but i cant seem to get it to work on my Fireboard.

But the main question is, Can I buy Clexus from anywhere. As I really want it for ym clans website?

Thanks
Danny

What an interesting discussion.

From what I have read so far, the problem is not \"selling\" a \"commercial\" bit of code, but in the encryption (ioncube, etc.) of that code. And that isn\'t even the \"real\" problem, from what I am reading.

The essence of the situation is that the source code would have to be available to those who purchase the extension in order to comply with the GPL license.

Right?
???

It\'s really kind of confusing for me anyways....all I Can do is sit back and watch the ongoing development of joomla (especially 1.5 version) and see where life takes us with 3rd party extensions as well. I still give thumbs up on the fireboard forum though, its definitely one of my favorite extensions!

I agree. I\'m no attorney, but I sure hope they get this figured out. If my assessment above is correct, couldn\'t they just make the source code available by taking a screen shot of it and posting it in a registered-user-only location? The source code would be available without being readily copy-able, and they could still keep it locked up nice n\'tight with ioncube.

I didn\'t ever get a chance to buy Clexus. I don\'t have much of a budget for myself and my own sites are all free. When I get the opportunity to help somebody build a site, I sometimes get to play with the toys they can buy. I never got the chance to play with Clexus, but I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaally wanted to.
